Shogi – Play & Learn · last updated 2 November 2026
Short version: you don't need an account, your games and progress stay on your phone, and we only collect anonymous crash reports and usage statistics to make the app better. We don't sell data and there are no ads.
What stays on your phone
Your progress (lessons, puzzles, streak, rating), your settings and your games are stored on your device only. We can't see them. Deleting the app deletes them.
Crash reports
When the app crashes or hits an error, it sends a report to Sentry (servers in Germany): what went wrong, the app version, the phone model and operating system. On an error the report can include a short recording of the app screen just before it, with text and images masked. No name, e-mail address or IP address is stored with it.
Usage statistics
The app sends anonymous events to PostHog (servers in the EU), such as "lesson completed", "puzzle solved" or "game finished", the screens you open and when the app starts. They are linked to a random ID created on your phone, not to you. We use them to see which lessons are too hard and where people get stuck.
Reminders
If you turn on the daily reminder, the app plans it on your phone. Nothing is sent to a server for it. You can turn it off in the app's settings or in your phone's settings.
What we don't do
- No accounts, no names, no e-mail addresses, no location.
- No advertising and no tracking across other apps or websites.
- No selling or sharing of data, other than with the two services above, which process it for us.
How long we keep it
Crash reports are kept for at most 90 days, usage statistics for at most two years.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask what we hold about you, have it deleted, or object to it. Because the data is anonymous we may need the random ID from your phone to find it; write to us and we'll help. You can also complain to your national data protection authority.
